Q. Exactly what is an anxiety disorder, and can you give us the most common forms of this problem?
A.: Anxiety itself is a collection of strong negative feelings such as dread, terror, apprehension or despair, often accompanied by physical symptoms such as rapidly pounding heartbeat, hyperventilation (fast breathing), trembling, dizziness, nausea or a choking sensation.
Anxiety disorders range from a chronic anxiety, where people are almost constantly tense or have insomnia, to more severe conditions such as a panic disorder or agoraphobia.
